Head out this Thursday to support local filmmakers at the inaugural 48-Hour Film Project at the Plaza Theatre in downtown El Paso.

48 Hour Film Project
48-Hour Film Project

The first ever 48-Hour Film Project (El Paso Chapter), spearheaded by sitting producer and El Paso native Robert Robles will showcase 18 shorts from filmmakers in the El Paso and Las Cruces area.

What is the 48 - Hour Film Project? The 48-Hour Film Project is a fast-paced and sleepless weekend in which local filmmakers and their teams make a movie - write, shoot, and edit - in just 48 hours.  It's a maddening concept but thrilling altogether.

On a Friday night, each team draws a genre plus a character, prop and line to include in their films. And by Sunday night, in a mad dash, the short films are uploaded, followed by a screening at a local theater in front of an audience of filmmakers, friends, and families.

The El Paso Chapter of The El Paso 48-Hour Film Project will select winners in 18 categories, including audience favorite and Best of Film.

At the end of the evening, the best film winner competes against the best filmmakers from hundreds of cities worldwide to be showcased in Filmpalooza with a cash prize of $5,000 and an entry into the prestigious Festival de Cannes.
