Texas is crawling, (literally), with ants and, except for entomologists and other ants, nobody likes them. Especially in your home but, if you do find one there, don't crush it.

Ants abound in Texas and true to that legendary "over the top, everything is bigger in Texas" thing, our ants are not only annoying; they can be deadly. Seriously, if you don't believe me, read this.

Anyway, those deadly little bastards don't really live around El Paso but we have our own types of them and while your first impulse upon seeing one or some in your house is probably to crush them with your foot, DON'T.

Mother Nature loves to throw curve balls at us and the reason you shouldn't crush ants in your home is another of her cute little "gotcha" moments. When crushed, ants actually call for help by releasing pheromones which ant first responders will answer.

So, now instead of a few ants, you will soon have a lot more. 100's, maybe 1,000's. Don't crush, use an insecticide of some sort and if you do crush any, clean and sanitize the area right away.

How Can I Prevent Ants?

You can start with the common sense stuff like don't leave doors and windows open, don't leave food out and keep your house clean. You can also hire an exterminator to visit your home periodically.

If you already have them, there are a number of ways to get rid of them. Some are poisons that could harm you, children or pets. There are other methods though that are completely natural.
