Five Points for Football Friday Night:

Last night: Montwood 51 - Odessa 14; Franklin 63 - El Dorado 6

The Rams made their voices heard on Thursday night as they toppled the Bronchos 51-14, avenging their 27-0 loss last year. Montwood head coach Ariel Famaligi had his troops ready and dominated Odessa yesterday. Could this be the point they turn the corner and amp it up going into 1-6A play?

Franklin's offense has been outstanding through four weeks and they kept it going against El Dorado, beating out the Aztecs 63-6. The Cougars have a balanced offensive attack and continue to light the field up with what they can do on both ends.

Biggest thing to look for: Can undefeated teams remain perfect?

There are eight undefeated teams left in the city: Franklin (4-0), Americas (3-0), Parkland (3-0), Ysleta (3-0), Hanks (2-0), Andress (3-0) and Clint (2-0). In 1-6A, Franklin cruised past El Dorado last night to remain perfect, but Americas will have their work cut out for them against Tascosa.

In 1-5A Divison II, Canutillo, Parkland, Ysleta and Hanks are fighting to stay perfect. While Canutillo and Parkland face rebuilding Del Valle and Chapin programs, respectively, Ysleta might have a tough time against Bowie on the road. Hanks, who didn't play last week due to weather cancellations, will hope to keep its unbeaten streak alive against a struggling El Paso High squad.

It will be tough for Andress to remain unbeaten tonight on the road against Frenship, but a great opportunity for the Golden Eagles to improve on the season. Clint gave Austin fits last year, so maybe they can brew up an upset as well.

High school matchup watch: Amarillo Tascosa vs. Americas

Call this not just the game of the week, but possibly the best non-district matchup the city will see. Americas enters this one riding the momentum they had in last week's win over Midland Christian, where running back Aaron Dumas had a remarkable seven touchdowns. They also got some nice productivity from their defense, led by Dylan Kemp who had eight sacks this year. Tascosa enters the game with a unique triple-option attack, led by their quarterback Joseph Plunk. This one should be a fun one to say the least.

Hot storyline: Can Eastlake win their first game this week?

Struggles continue for 1-5A as they enter the week at a combined 2-17, with Bel Air and Eastwood being the only teams that have won games in the district. Among some of the closer losses has been Eastlake. The Falcons battled it out against Burges last week and lost in the end. Led by their junior quarterback Orion Olivas, this Eastlake-Coronado matchup seems to be a solid opportunity for the Falcons to get their first win.

Peep ahead to next week: Andress at Austin

Getting some big-time 1-5A Division II action early on, as Austin hosts Andress in what could be an early district title game. Andress has been pretty strong this season, and despite a bad first half against Parkland, so have the Panthers. Is this the year Austin head coach Eric Pichardo can get his squad over the hump and beat Andress?
