The El Paso High Tigers improved to 4-1 with a hard fought defensive victory over Burges at Jones Stadium for homecoming.

The Tigers struck first as running back Omar Rojero scored on a 2 yard touchdown run with 4:22 remaining in the first quarter.  Scoring was a rarity in this particular contest, every point proved to be crucial.  Burges took an 8-7 lead with 8:39 to go in the second quarter when quarterback Chris Euzarraga called his own number and scored on a 15 yard QB keeper.  The Mustangs went for 2 and successfully converted to take the narrow lead.

A Burges' fumble enabled the Tigers to take a 14-8 lead into halftime when running back Omar Rojero scored his second touchdown of the contest late in the second quarter.  The 3rd quarter was a punting contest and proved to be a defensive battle.  El Paso High finally scored again with 11:14 left in the 4th quarter when defensive end Rudy Payan stripped Burges' running back Andrew Reyes and took it 38 yards for the defensive score.

This was the nail in the coffin as the Tigers went on to win the game 21-14 over Burges.  With the win El Paso High improved to 2-0 in District 1-4A play.  Next week the Tigers will travel to Baty-Simang Stadium to face Jefferson.  The loss drops Burges to 2-4 on the season, 0-3 in District 1-4A.  Next Friday the Mustangs will host Irvin.
