A funny thing happened to the UTEP football team last week. Their defense set program records with a 34-0 shutout road win against UTSA. The Miners needed an encore performance tonight at the Sun Bowl and that is exactly what they received. UTEP's defense forced five consecutive Southern Miss turnovers and scored two touchdowns in a 35-14 victory over the Golden Eagles...

Slowly, but surely, Sean Kugler has been trying to teach his team. Toughness. Pride. Teamwork. But maybe the biggest lesson is that those are only words unless you work to give them definition. The Miners may not yet fully comprehend, but after dominating UTSA for their first road shut out since their coach played here, you can safely say they've cracked open the dictionary to find out.

Doc Sadler will return to the Don Haskins Center next year. The former UTEP head coach was hired to lead the Southern Mississippi basketball program and he will be officially introduced at a press conference tomorrow. Here is the press release from SouthernMiss...

UTEP's kryptonite has proven to be Southern Miss who defeated the Miners 64-56 to advance to the semi finals of the Conference USA Tournament and will face Louisiana Tech.

Ah, the pop of the glove, the "tink" of the bat...That's right, it's college baseball season, too! I generally prefer the college game over the pros in many sports; and while MLB has its own magic because of its tradition, college baseball can be a lot of fun. You'd never see whole teams of Major Leaguers doing stuff like Ole Miss and Southern Miss did during a rain delay...

The UTEP Miners sustained a costly loss on Senior night at the Don Haskins Center on Wednesday night.  It was a disappointing end to the Miners home schedule, as Rice swept the season series by winning 68-61.  The Miners had a solid performance by senior Gabe McCulley, who shined in his last home game as a Miner, scoring 17.  John Bohannon added 13 points in the losing effort.

UTEP won a close game for the first time this season, defeating Tulane 54-52 in overtime on Saturday night.

On Saturday night, October 29th, the UTEP Miners hosted Southern Miss in a C-USA showdown. The Golden Eagles won the game 31-13.
