Steve Kaplowitz, originally from New York, moved to El Paso in 1978. After graduating from Coronado High School and receiving his bachelor’s of arts in broadcast journalism from the University of Texas in 1995, he returned to El Paso to pursue a career in radio. In 1996, Steve began hosting a weekend sports talk show on KROD 600. One year later, he took over as the station’s Program Director and moved into weekday afternoon timeslot as the host of Sportstalk. In 2007, Kaplowitz was the television play-by-play voice for NMSU football and basketball, and he has also served as play-by-play announcer and analyst for the UTEP Miners women’s basketball team, the El Paso Buzzards Hockey Club and the High School Football Game of the Week. Steve has worked as both a reporter and weekend anchor at KDBC-TV (CBS) and KTSM-TV (NBC) and currently co-hosts Time Warner’s coverage of UTEP sports on the Texas Channel with Duke Keith. Kaplowitz and his wife Karen reside in West El Paso.

Sad news as Nolan Richardson III was found dead in his Tulsa home Sunday afternoon. The 47-year old son of the legendary college basketball coach had followed his father into coaching.

Conference USA made it official today adding five new schools to its roster. Beginning in 2013, UNC Charlotte, Florida International, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, and UT San Antonio will join UTEP as conference foes.

Derrick Rose Injury Just Bad Luck

It is an absolute shame that Chicago Bulls star guard Derrick Rose tore his ACL Saturday against the Philadelphia 76ers. Rose, one of the NBA's best young talents, was injured driving to the lane late in the 4th quarter.

Chavez Jr. Fight Update: Cohen Stadium Looking Good

As of 10:30 am Thursday, no decision has been made on the site for June 16th's Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. title defense. However, El Paso's chances of keeping the fight still look promising. This morning, I spoke with boxing marketer Lester Bedford, and he reiterated El Paso's fight to keep the event in town.
