Pro Boxing Returns to the El Paso County Coliseum in March

Pro boxing is coming back to El Paso and the Coliseum. King's Promotions and Warriors Edge Boxing announced the 10-fight card that will be billed as Ring Wars IX on Friday night, March 1st. Of the 10 bouts, six of them will feature female boxers including the main event with Stephanie Han. The undefeated lightweight fighter is currently ranked 9th in the WBA and she is excited about returning to the ring next month.

I am happy that Marshall Kauffman from King's Promotions and Warriors Edge Boxing are committed to developing the young pro fighters in the area. His first show at the Coliseum last fall conflicted gave fight fans a good look at the top prospects that El Paso and Las Cruces has to offer. The March 1st date for Ring Wars IX does not conflict with any sporting events in the area. King's Promotions also dropped the starting ticket price to $25 in order to make it affordable for everyone. Ringside tickets are priced at $125.

In addition to Han, local prospects like Jorge Tovar, Victor Aranda, Angelica Rascon, and Amy Salinas will be back in the ring. Kauffman is also bringing in some of his top prospects like bantamweights Brittany Sims and Bree Howling. There will even be a pair of heavyweight bouts on the card.

Assuming Ring Wars IX attracts a solid crowd at the Coliseum, Kauffman would like to bring another card back to the Coliseum in either May or June. He believes that Han could get a title fight before the end of the year if she continues to impress in the ring. Tovar and Aranda are both highly regarded boxing prospects and they only need more pro fights in order to rise in the boxing rankings.

Kauffman told the media at the press conference Tuesday that he is committed to female fighting and he actually prefers them to male fighters. That is a big reason why the majority of the bouts on March 1st will involve female boxers. Former IBF world champion Jennifer Han always had trouble getting quality opponents during the prime years of her boxing career. She did have an opportunity to fight world champions like Katie Taylor and Mikaela Mayer towards the end of her career. He sister Stephanie is in a much different situation. Although she is 32, Han has only had five pro fights to date and she will most likely have plenty of quality opponents in the future.
