Despite being born in Kazakhstan, middleweight boxer Gennady Golovkin is quickly becoming a favorite among Mexican fight fans. The 32-year old WBA Super Middleweight titleholder destroyed WBC interim middleweight champion Marco Antonio Rubio last Saturday night in Carson, California. The bout was supposed to be a title unification match, but Rubio failed to make the catch weight prior to the fight, so the belts were no longer on the line. That mattered little to Golovkin, who knocked out Rubio early inn the second round.

After the win, Golovkin joined HBO's Max Kellerman for one of boxing more entertaining post fight interviews. A record crowd of 9,323 fans packed the StubHub Center to watch Golovkin, who brought his self proclaimed "Mexican Style" of boxing to them. The undefeated champ has also mastered his limited use of Spanish as his popularity grows among Latino boxing fans.
