At the moment, Texas barely recognizes the medical marijuana concept but that may finally be changing.

The Texas House of Representatives recently approved a bill widening specifics of the Texas Medical Marijuana laws, aka the "Compassionate Use" program,

Those revisions have not yet been ok'd by the Texas Senate but they're on their way.

The new proposal adds a few more "acceptable" medical conditions for using pot to treat medical conditions.

According to NORML, Texas law currently allows mota to be used by people diagnosed with or suffering from

  • Autism
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
  • Cancer
  • Incurable neurodegenerative disorders
  • Intractable Epilepsy
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Post-traumatic stress
  • Seizure disorders
  • Terminal cancer

The new proposal would qualify peeps who are experiencing pain that a doctor would, normally prescribe opioids to treat. Given the dangers of opioids that we keep reading more and more about, this makes total sense.

The bill may relax "conditions" for medical marijuana use, (Compassionate Use), even further:

Importantly, the bill further stipulates that regulators at the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) could approve, through rulemaking, additional debilitating medical conditions to qualify patients for the cannabis program. If enacted, the bill would take effect starting on September 1, 2023. - marijuanamomemt.net

A full - on, marijuana "decriminalization" bill also recently passed the Texas house and is currently awaiting a Texas Senate thumbs up.

So far, 24 other states have decriminalized or fully legalized recreational pot across the USA. If this bill passes, the  lone star state would become #25 on the "not a crime" list.
