El Dorado traveled to the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces to face state powerhouse Mayfield in a close, defensive battle.

It was the first time that Mayfield played a game on their brand new "dream" turf which cost between $760,000 and $775,000 to install.  El Dorado's first snap of their opening possession of the game resulted in a defensive touchdown as Aztecs' center Dominic Assad snapped the ball over the head of QB Austin Hill into the end zone.

The Aztecs redeemed themselves offensively as they marched down the field and first year QB Austin Hill threw a 10 yard TD pass to wide receiver Jacob Duran to tie the contest with 5:46 reaming in the first quarter.  Both defenses played relentlessly from that point on as the game was tied 7-7 at the half.

It wasn't until 2:26 in the 3rd quarter when El Dorado scored again as tailback Laderrick Wilson found the end zone on a 5 yard touchdown run.  It was a spectacular 13 play drive for the Aztecs, unfortunately for them, it was the last time they scored in the contest.

On Mayfield's next possession they tied the game on a 38 yard TD run by Phillip Ehly.  With the game tied at 14-14 in the 4th quarter, Mayfield kicker Jessie Jimenez kicked a 47 yard field goal that gave the Trojans the lead, and turned out to be the winning score as Mayfield won 17-14 over El Dorado.

It was a hard fought battle for both teams, and an entertaining game to say the least.  Next up for Las Cruces Mayfield is Franklin who will travel to the Field of Dreams next Friday.  As for El Dorado they will face 2-4A powerhouse Del Valle at home next Friday night.
