El Paso’s Most Haunted Cemetery Hosting John Wesley Hardin Event

Go back in time to when gunslingers and outlaws roamed the city of El Paso during the annual meeting of the Secret Society of John Wesley Hardin at Concordia Cemetery.

El Paso's past is knee-deep in history, from the days of Pancho Villa to the American Old West outlaws, including notorious gunslingers like John Wesley Hardin.

Every year, the Secret Society of John Wesly Hardin meets for a gunfight reenactment of the famous gunslinger buried at one of the most haunted cemeteries in El Paso and Texas, Concordia Cemetery.

A Brief History

Born over 125 years ago, John Wesley Hardin was an interesting character who, to this day, intrigues historians and fans alike. Even Bob Dylan wrote a song about the Texas sharpshooter titled "John Wesley Hardin(g)" back in the 60s.

Hardin's trouble with the law began at 15 when he killed a man claiming he did so in self-defense and was reputed to have shot and killed a man just for snoring.

Soon after, lawmen pursued Hardin for most of his life, and by the age of 23 (1877) was sentenced to 24 years in prison for murder. During his time in prison, he kept busy studying law, wrote an autobiography, spoke of tall tales, and claimed to have killed 42 men.

After 15 years in prison, the infamous gunslinger was pardoned and killed by John Selman a year later at the Acme Saloon in downtown El Paso.

And now, Hardin fans can join the Secret Society of John Wesley Hardin at Concordia Cemetery to reenact his final days.

Attendees will also participate in a sunset reenactment by Six Guns and Shady Ladies, followed by a sundown ghost tour of Concordia Cemetery.
