The 915 was represented twice during the Democratic National Convention, first during the opening prayer and the second by featuring an El Paso elementary school nurse.

On Monday, El Paso, TX was prominently featured in day one of the historic virtual 2020 Democratic National Convention led by moderator Eva Longoria.

El Paso Mentioned In Prayer

The online event opened up with a collage of people recited the Preamble to the United States Constitution, the pledge of allegiance, followed by kids singing America the Beautiful into an opening prayer led by Rev. Dr. Gabriel Salguero, president of the National Latino Evangelical Coalition and co-lead pastor of the Lamb's Church in New York City.

In Rev. Salguero's prayer, he mentions El Paso with a perfect accent saying “This nation from Miami to Minneapolis, and from Portland to El Paso…”

El Paso School Nurse Represents

The Democratic National Convention featured many speakers including Bernie Sanders, Beto O’Rourke, George Floyd’s family, Michelle Obama, and many others. Among those being interviewed was a school nurse, Michelle Beebe from El Paso, TX.

Sporting Sesame Street Cookie Monster scrubs, Beebe was asked by Longoria how she was preparing for the new school year, not just as a school nurse, but as a mother as well. Beebe responded by saying that during these challenging times it’s important to adapt and persevere and that her main focus is to keep the “kiddos safe”.

According to Univision, Michelle Beebe is a mother of three and is a school nurse at Ascarate Elementary School (Ysleta Independent School District).

It’s always a nice surprise to see El Paso in the national spotlight especially when amazing people like Beebe rep our community.

Great job Michelle, thanks for representing the 915!
