Let’s get this out of the way up front; there is no need to panic, there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases in El Paso or El Paso County.

City officials announced during a press conference on Tuesday (3/10/20) that results came back on one recent coronavirus test in the county and the person tested does not have COVID-19.

Earlier yesterday, the El Paso Times reported two New Mexico State University students who had been studying in Italy had returned to the borderland “and are under self-quarantine as a cautionary measure.”

It is unknown at this time if the coronavirus testing referenced during the press conference involved the NMSU student now at home in El Paso. The Times reports the students flew home the first week of March and that neither have shown any symptoms so far.

Italy has more than 10,000 confirmed cases of the virus and remains under a national lock-down.
