After two weeks of play and careful deliberation, the "Football Friday Night" crew has come up with the first high school top ten list of the season.

  • 1

    Franklin

    2-0

It was a tough call for number one between Franklin and Montwood, but we determined beating San Angelo Central on the road and throttling Las Cruces Mayfield at home was more impressive than defeating a down Odessa Permian squad.

  • 2

    Montwood

    2-0

The Rams made history by being the first El Paso squad since Ysleta in 1960 to defeat Odessa Permian. Montwood will challenge themselves again by traveling to the San Antonio area to take on Smithson Valley.

  • 3

    El Dorado

    2-0

The Aztecs have started the young season 2-0 by virtue of wins over Mayfield and Del Valle. El Dorado takes is on the road this week and will be in Wolfforth to take on Frenship.

  • 4

    Americas

    1-1

The big question surrounding the Trailblazers this year was how would they replace Boise State bound Jack Fields? Javier Hinojos has done a good job filling the enormous void when Fields graduated. After a respectable 22-15 loss to Midland Lee, Americas bounced back with a 28-24 win over Burges. The Trailblazers will be in Lubbock this week taking on Lubbock Monterey

  • 5

    Coronado

    1-1

As bad as the T-Birds looked in a 38-14 defeat to Midland High, they looked equally impressive in a 41-7 win over Hanks. The players are still getting used to a new offense, but they will be a tough out in 5A as they continue to gain confidence.

  • 6

    Burges

    1-1

The Mustangs are coming off a tough 28-24 loss to Americas, but as long as they have Aaron Jones they have a chance to hang with anybody. Burges will host Cathedral this week before starting their district schedule.

  • 7

    Chapin

    1-1

The Huskies won a dramatic 22-19 game in overtime over New Mexico's Rio Rancho Cleveland. They will be challenged again this week against Coronado.

  • 8

    Del Valle

    0-2

Despite an 0-2 start, it would be crazy to think Jesse Perales' squad won't compete for another 2-4A title. The offense needs to get in gear, but the defense is once again stout. The Conquistadores are in grave danger of falling out of the top ten if they fall to Horizon on Friday.

  • 9

    Hanks

    1-1

The Knights laid a giant egg in their 41-7 loss to Coronado, but this team can score points and should find district 2-4A to their liking. Hanks travels to San Eli this friday.

  • 10

    Andress

    1-1

After a 36-35 zero week loss to Hanks, the Eagles were dominant in a 28-6 victory over Eastlake. With Ryan Metz flinging the rock around the gridiron, it feels like this team will get better as the season wears on. The face a tough week two test hosting Franklin.
