A few weeks ago, we unearthed a rare defensive drills video featuring Don Haskins and his 1966 Texas Western team. Now, you can go back in time 30 years to the commemorative rings that were given to that Miners team. The date was March 1st 1986, and the ceremony took place at halftime of the Hawaii game. UTEP won that game 78-66 and finished 12-4 in the WAC.

The TWC 20th reunion was organized by Joe Gomez, and he had El Paso jewelers John and Henry Silverman design the championship ring. All 19 rings were donated to the team by Silverman, and that was the first time that Miners team ever received rings. Texas Western did receive watches for participating in the NCAA Tournament, but rings were not given out until years later. Gomez posted the video from 1986 just a few weeks ago and for Miners fans that remember that ceremony, it was another trip down memory lane.
