Cubs Fired Manager Dale Sveum

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs have fired manager Dale Sveum after finishing last in the NL Central for the first time in seven years.

The Cubs closed the campaign dropping 41 of their final 59 games, including six of their final seven. They finished 66-96 this season and Sveum went 127-197 in his two seasons at the helm. He has one year left on a three-year deal signed before the 2012 season.

Chicago Cubs Fire Mike Quade, Ryne Sandberg Won’t Be Next Manager

The news that Mike Quade is out of a job as the manager of the Chicago Cubs was not entirely unexpected after a record of 95-104 since taking over for Lou Piniella in August of 2010. Official word of Quade’s firing came down Wednesday.

While Quade is out, many are surprised that Cubs legend Ryne Sandberg — who was up for the position last year before Quade won it — won’t be considered to replace him.

Two El Pasoans Drafted in MLB First Year Player Draft

Two former Frankiln Cougars have been drafted in the 2011 MLB first year player draft.  The Phillies grabbed 2007 graduate Michael Marshall in the 30th round with the 931st selection.  Marshall hit .337 with 15 home runs and 68 RBI last year for Lubbock Christian University.  He also went 9-0 with 101 strikeouts for the Chaparrals.

Sean Deveney Interview

On the heels of a new exhibit at the Chicago Museum of History a lot of people are wondering if the Chicago Cubs threw the 1918 World Series to the Red Sox.  In 2009 writer Sean Deveney tackled the subject in his book The Original Curse:  Did the Cubs Throw the 1918 World Series to Babe Ruth's Red Sox and Incite the Black Sox Scandal?.  Sean joined Sportstalk to discuss the book and a little NBA action.
