It is important that we teach the proper morals and etiquette to our youth, especially in sports. However, it seems like things have been taken a little too far in Georgia. The Gwinnett Football League has a mercy rule, which states that a team cannot run up the score on their opponent past 33 points. Last Saturday, the Lawrenceville Black Knights were ahead of Collins Hill by a score of 32-0 in the fourth quarter, when Elijah Burrell intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. Instead of the Black Knights celebrating Burrell's first ever Pee Wee score, the team was punished by the GFL for exceeding the 33-point limit. Lawrenceville was hit with a $500 fine and their head coach was suspended for one week. Here's the kicker: the game involved 8-year old kids.
