One of the greatest days on the sports calendar is here—the NFL Draft.

Throughout the next three days,

600 ESPN El Paso remains on the ground in Detroit for the first round of the NFL Draft. Join us for SportsTalk live from 4-7 PM (MST) hosted by Stephen Foster, Chris Fernandez, former player Mel Owens and myself.

Here are some of my thoughts on the draft before we jump into the mock draft:

  • Receivers, receivers and receivers! What a receiver class this is across the NFL. Marvin Harrison Jr. is being called the most sure-fire draft-ready wide receiver in this class. The unicorn of the group is LSU's Malik Nabers, who has trended upward over the last months. Don't forget about Washington standout Rome Odunze, who looks physically imposing and played fantastic football in the CFP National Championship.
  • Could we get 5 QBs picked in the first round? We could see a quarterback draft order of Caleb Williams-Jayden Daniels-Drake Maye-J.J. McCarthy go in the top 10 of the draft, respectively. Is Michael Penix going to shoot up the draft last minute the way that Trey Lance did in 2021? Or, is he going to be more of a Will Levis, who ended up dropping out of the first round? I think Penix is going to be a trendy name to watch in the No. 11-20 picks of this draft.
  • Over/under 6.5 trades in the first round? Craziness is about to ensue here in the first round. I would be hammering the over on this. I think there are quite a few teams that want to trade into the No. 10-15 picks of the draft. Most draft gurus suggest there is a talent drop-off in talent after the first 15 players on the board. I think picks 7-10 could get a little crazy too.
