Las Cruces Mayfield showed everyone at The Field of Dreams why they are one of the top teams in New Mexico by putting on a phenomenal offensive performance against Franklin.  Mayfield, who has participated in back-to-back class 6A state championship games defeated the Cougars 69-49.

When these two teams hook up there is always non stop scoring, very few punts, and more often than not a competitive back and forth battle.  Last night's game was no different.  The first half featured the Trojans getting on the board first when running back Isaac Vance scored the first of his six touchdowns on a 2-yard TD run at the 5:22 mark of the first quarter.

Franklin answered shortly after that as quarterback Brandon Mueller found wideout Sebastian Hoy for a 5-yard touchdown reception to tie the game at 7-7.  After that the scoring frenzy was on as both teams put up points, but Mayfield was outscoring Franklin mostly due to the spectacular performance of RB Isaac Vance who finished the game with 247 rushing yards on 35 carries, and 67 receiving yards.  Vance has scored 10 touchdowns in two games thus far and accumulated 608 rushing yards.

Mayfield went into the locker room at the half with a 35-21 lead over Franklin.  The second half was more of the same, Franklin blinked and was down 42-21 to Mayfield when Isaac Vance scored his fourth touchdown of the game early in the third quarter.  Franklin answered when QB Brandon Mueller scored on a 12-yard touchdown on a read option to the left side of the end zone. The Cougars' score narrowed the Mayfield lead to 42-27.

Mayfield took the 48-27 lead when QB Joeray Valencia scored on a 1 yard keeper.  Franklin narrowed the Trojans' lead to 13 points when running back Michael Faimalo scored on a 4-yard run with 11:22 left in the game.  That was as close as Franklin would get though as Mayfield continued to score at will and went on to defeat the Cougars by 20 points.

With the victory Mayfield moves to 2-0 on the season and will travel to Carlsbad to face the Cavemen next Friday.  Franklin evened their record at 1-1 and will travel to Monahans to face San Angelo Central.
