Americas upsets Franklin on the road, 16-10

In a district 1-6A showdown, the Americas Trailblazers received a much-needed victory on the road at Franklin, 16-10, to improve to 2-2 on the season. There were six combined turnovers in the matchup, including three turnover on downs by the Cougars inside Trailblazer territory.

Americas got off to a 10-7 lead at the half thanks to a 40-yard field goal right before time expired. Sophomore tailback Cam'Ron Johnson was integral for Americas in the win, rushing for 138 yards in the second half alone and over 240 in the game, with a pair of touchdowns. Defensive backs Anthony Miranda and Alexander Ortiz each stole interceptions in the game.

Franklin had multiple opportunities to try and rally back in the game. They nailed a 32-yard field goal thanks to Juan Pablo Soto in the fourth quarter. They also lost several starters, putting their total to 10 starters injured over the first four weeks of the season. Franklin (3-1) will try to regroup next week on the road at Socorro.

Del Valle cruises to a 31-7 victory over Canutillo in our 915 Tours game of the week

By Steve Escajeda

Sophomore quarterback Jake Fette threw three touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Del Valle Conquistadores (3-1) to a 31-7 victory over the Canutillo Eagles (2-2).

The game, which was billed as a battle between two perennial playoff teams was never in doubt as Del Valle methodically increased its lead to 31-0 before Canutillo scored its only touchdown of the game with less than a minute left.

Fette connected on 17 of his 25 pass attempts for 325 yards. He also carried it 10 times for another 43 yards. His three touchdown passes give him nine on the season without an interception.

Jonathan Estrada and Matt Lopez each caught four passes to lead the Conquistadores. Estrada gained 98 yards and caught two touchdowns while Lopez finished with 91 receiving yards.

And for good measure, Estrada also picked off a pass on defense.

The only bright spot on the Eagles’ offense was Dante Aguilar, who rushed for 85 yards on seven carries.

Del Valle outgained Canutillo 454 total yards to 173.

The Conquistadores will try to continue their winning ways next Friday at home against the Chapin Huskies (2-1), while Canutillo hopes to regroup at Parkland (3-1).
