If you're looking to enjoy some fireworks that shoot up into the air this 4th of July weekend, you will probably need to check out one of the professional displays throughout the city.

For the most part, the area has a ban on any aerial fireworks. El Paso has banned the use of aerial fireworks that are also known at "sticks and fins". Those are exactly what you would think they are. They're the fireworks with sticks and fins. Duh. As for Dona Ana County and Las Cruces, the following are all legal:

  • Cone fountains
  • Cylindrical fountains
  • Flitter sparklers
  • Ground spinners
  • Illuminating torches
  • Toy smoking devices and wheels
  • Aerial fireworks are allowed but only with a permit

The recent rain storms have helped out anyone that was looking to pop off some fireworks in Otero County. There was originally a ban on all fireworks, but the rains have lifted that ban. Fernando Villamontes, the area's manager for TNT Fireworks said:

The rains came in in millions of gallons.  It's really saved the industry, it's saved sales and I believe it should really make people very happy to come out and shoot some fireworks.

If you're looking for a list of the things to do in El Paso and the Borderland this weekend, CLICK HERE. I know what I'm doing, at least on Saturday. The wife and I will be checking out the Locomotive game on Saturday. I would say you should buy some tickets and come out to the game but it's sold out.

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
