Rebounds are helpful for a lot of things. At it's most basic, it's a simple opportunity to get a second chance to score a basket. To make a useless video game analogy, it would be the equivalent of one of those "1-Up" lives that players receive to get an extra life.

Apparently, though, Clemson's Sidy Djitte forgot to get that extra life and simply forgot how to rebound. In his defense though, at least he tried to keep the play alive and continue playing but, yeah, the inability to rebound was kind of pointless since it accomplished nothing. Solid effort but not so good execution is what I'm saying.
