CVS Downtown Store:

I first saw the news of this CVS store closing down from a tweet by my fave Croat/Croation, KTSM reporter Karla Draksler.

“Downtown CVS is closing down for good on July 14th. Another business gone from the area,” read Karla’s tweet.

Why?

According to a KTSM report, CVS store officials said that the store is closing down due to “local market dynamics, population shifts, a community’s store density, and ensuring there are other geographic access points to meet the needs of the community, including COVID-19 testing and vaccinations. “

The History:

According to Karla’s report, the store is located in a historical building originally known as C.N. Buckler Block which was built by architect Edward Kneezell back in 1901.

It was destroyed in a fire in 1910, that took a life of the first El Paso firefighter to die defending the citizens of El Paso,” wrote Karla.

What Now?

The future of the actual building is still unknown, but local historians are hoping that the building won’t be destroyed as it is a part of El Paso’s downtown history.

Fallas Discount Department:

Ok, I need to first confess that I am obsessed with those cute little fuzzy socks that you can wear around the house and Fallas was the place I would always find those socks for a good cost!

I’ll be honest, I think I only went to the Fallas downtown location about a handful of times, but seeing the Fallas Discount sign as I drove around the area always reminded me of my Downtown adventures.

Now, not much information is known as to why one of the largest department stores in downtown El Paso is closing, but according to an El Paso Times report, the department store will be holding an out-of-business sale just seven months after the store reopened last November.

The store’s building is full of signs that read “Going out of Business,” “Store closing,” and “Entire Store Sale."

When is Fallas Discount Department store set to officially close its doors? No official date for the store's last day has been announced yet.
