This Dark Theory About the Grinch and His Dog Will Make You Sad

We all know the story of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" right? Holiday specials and movies have been adapted of the classic Dr. Seuss tale. The Grinch lives all alone on Mount Crumpit just outside of Whoville and hates all the Who's and he absolutely abhors Christmas. Like, he really despises it! The Grinch does have one friend, though, besides little Cindy Lou Who, his dog Max. Max is the cutest!

In the end, the Grinch's small heart grows three sizes when he realizes "maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store, maybe Christmas means a little bit more". Classic! Because I really like the Jim Carrey incarnation of The Grinch, I watch it every year. All was dandy, until this TikTok came up on my feed:

Chills! The implication being that Max was a Christmas gift that was thrown away through the "Dump it to Crumpit" chute! Just for reference, this is the scene from the movie where he goes off on all the Who's and lets them know exactly what happens to their presents.

It makes total sense. When the Grinch went up to Mount Crumpit as a child he's all alone. Now, as an adult Grinch he has Max. If he never once went down to Whoville until the Cheermeister Celebration, how did Max end up with him?! The depressing TikTok has over seven million views and thousands of comments that naturally has all commentators in their feels over the realization!

This is a great time to remind everyone that pets are not just a gift that you can get bored of and then get rid of it, they are a lifetime commitment. If you're not ready for that, don't gift your child a pet for Christmas. Thank you for coming to my TED talk, excuse me while I go cry over Max.
