Scenic Sundays Shifts to Spring, Summer Hours
Beginning this month, anyone who wants to walk, run, bicycle or skateboard along Scenic Drive on a Sunday morning can do so an hour earlier.
Scenic Sunday, which allows active El Pasoans access to Scenic Drive without having to compete for the road with vehicle traffic, is making its seasonal time-of-day adjustment.
From April 3 through the summer the hours for Scenic Sundays will be 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., the City of El Paso announced. Vehicles are not allowed on the road from Wheeling to the Rim Road-Robinson entrance during those four hours of the morning every Sunday from now through September.
This allows anyone who wants to take in one of our majestic sunrises while getting their steps and exercise the ability to do so without having to worry about traffic on the one-lane, winding roads of the iconic landmark.
100 Years of Scenic Drive
When you make it up to the top, look for the new plaque commemorating Scenic Drive's 100 anniversary.
The roadway’s centennial was finally given its due this past February. The anniversary actually happened in 2020, but because of Covid-19 and the gathering restrictions in place at the time the milestone came and went with little fanfare.
You'll find the plaque right next to the stairs that lead down to the overlook with the iconic tower viewer binoculars.
