Public House 28 Brewery Is A Welcome Oasis 30 Min Out Of El Paso
Surrounded by beautiful vistas of the Franklin Mountains and green fields, Public House 28 Brewery sits off of Highway 28 like an oasis that beckons to be discovered by El Pasoans.
Public House Brewery 28 sits perfectly halfway between Las Cruces and west El Paso, offering an escape from city life with its mesmerizing beer garden.
During a recent day trip to Old Mesilla, I came upon the new local brewery that officially opened Halloween weekend near scenic Highway 28 in Anthony, NM, less than an hour away from El Paso.
My friend and I arrived midafternoon on a Friday and were lucky enough to speak with owner John Bruker.
It turns out that Bruker had a vision for his brewery when he began planting cottonwood trees about five years ago that would eventually become the central point of Public House 28 Brewery, besides its delightful craft beer, of course.
As we stepped inside this welcome desert oasis, it unfolded with plenty of seating areas, games, and fire pits perfect for gathering around with friends under the same cottonwood trees that now sing and sway with the slightest breeze.
The brewery also includes an open area taproom, landscaping lined with pecan shells, established cactus, towering sunflowers, and vegetation that attract dozens of butterflies fluttering about the half-acre property.
And it’s not just the landscape that Bruker planted himself because during our time visiting, I witnessed him literally get his hands dirty as he lay brick by brick, creating a new pathway to the brewing area.
As we took in the whimsical outdoor space at the brewery to sip on our craft beer, we also had a chance to meet with one of its master brewers Blake Heath.
Heath spoke to us about their beer selection, including their local small-batch craft beer, such as their Black Tooth Grin – a chocolate oatmeal stout, Polo Pony – an America Pale Ale, and my new favorite, the Bagsy Pub Ale an English Pale Ale.
Patrons will not only enjoy excellent craft beer, laid-back vibes, and down-to-earth locals at Public House 28 Brewery, but they will also find a taco food truck, souvenirs, and plenty of charm sprawled throughout the grounds.
With just a short drive from El Paso and Las Cruces, Public House 28 Brewery is not just another brewery but a destination offering up a little slice of craft beer heaven.
Public House 28 Brewery is located at10092 NM-28, Anthony, NM 88021, and is now open Thursday through Monday and closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
