Three people are dead and four more were wounded after a gunman opened fire from inside his home near the campus of Texas A&M university.

The tragedy unfolded when a police officer tried to serve an eviction notice to the unnamed shooter, who then began firing automatic weapons and killed Brian Bachmann, a 41-year-old Brazos County sheriff’s deputy, as well as a male civilian.

Three more police officers and a female civilian were also wounded by the flying bullets before someone shot the gunman. He eventually died at a nearby hospital.

The shooting occurred just east of the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station. Texas A&M issued an alert on its website warning of an active shooter near Kyle Field, the campus football stadium, just before 12:30 p.m. local time. Fifteen minutes later, school officials said College Station police took the shooter into custody.
