In one of the most entertaining high school football games that one could ever hope to witness, Las Cruces Mayfield defeated Franklin 62-55 at Quarles Thunderbird Stadium.

The seesaw battle included non stop scoring by both teams from the opening kickoff to the final seconds of the game.  Both teams are loaded with an overwhelming amount of talent and it was rather transparent based on the quality of play that fans were treated to.  Mayfield QB Kavika Johnson who is being looked at by UTEP, NMSU, UNM, and BYU virtually played a flawless game completing 8-14 passes for 191 yards and scored 4 rushing touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball Franklin quarterback Baylor Romney who's committed to Nevada also played a spectacular game.  Romney completed 19 of 30 passes for 359 yards while rushing for 2 TD's and throwing 2 touchdowns as well.   Mayfield scored the winning touchdown with 5:34 remaining in the 4th quarter when running back Isaac Vance rushed for a 34 yard score.

Mayfield actually played solid defense in the final five plus minutes of the game and stopped Franklin on a crucial 4th and 15 from their 39 yard line with 3:09 left, sealing the deal and securing the victory.  Quite frankly this was a stunning offensive showcase by both teams that featured five rushing touchdowns by both quarterbacks and a whopping 1,361 yards of combined offense.

Las Cruces Mayfield, the second ranked team in the state of New Mexico, improved to 2-0 on the season and will host Carlsbad next Friday at the Field of Dreams.  With the loss Franklin evens their record at 1-1 and will face the daunting task of playing at San Angelo Central next week.
