El Paso County Teams Up With Facebook Group To Improve Amenities At Ascarate Park
The County of El Paso and MOB - Families For El Paso are working together to improve Ascarate Park. The County has a 10 year plan that includes upgrades to existing areas and the addition of a dog park, water park, and skate park.
MOB also has a plan for Ascarate. They would like to see educational components including an all inclusive park, Dino Dig, musical area, and sensory garden. To achieve this goal, they are trying to raise money through grants, local businesses, community leaders, and fundraising events. They are planning a fundraiser on March 29th, 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the 501 Bistro. There will be games, food, drinks, and entertainment. You can help buy a slide, swing, benches, and various playground equipment. You can buy a brick with your name on it, sponsor a wall, and name a pathway.
Tickets are $35.00 each.
This is a really good cause. A lot of kids can't go to playgrounds because of disabilities. MOBs is trying to make sure that all kids and families will be able to enjoy Ascarate Park.
The all abilities playground will provide a safe place where children of all abilities can play together, and are developmentally appropriate for children with and without disabilities.
The Dino Dig will have a large scale sandbox with fossils to dig for and educational components explaining the past cultures of the El Paso region. MOBs is hoping to partner with the Archeology Museum and the UTEP College of Science to incorporate an educational component of the prehistoric history of El Paso.
The sensory garden will be a calm and quiet area with native plant landscaping that will offer space for community groups and schools to enjoy and learn.
