Are you a fan of Pickleball? Not sure what that is? Don’t worry, I didn’t know what that was either until I started seeing friends post about it and I did my research.

Pickleball does NOT have anything to do with pickles. Sad. BUT it is a sport that looks pretty fun.

Pickleball is an indoor or outdoor racket/paddle sport where two or four players hit a hollow ball over a net using solid-faced paddles. So, kind of a mixture of tennis and paddle ball.

Pickleball was invented in 1965 as a children's backyard game and in 2022 it was adopted as the official state sport of Washington.

Well, now the sport has made its way to El Paso. The tennis courts at Ascarate Parl were transformed into pickleball courts making them the first permanent outdoor pickleball courts in the city.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last week at Ascarate park where city and county officials welcomed guests to experience the courts for themselves.

According to the county, the number of pickleball players has increased in the city so one of the two tennis courts was repurposed to offer a total of four dedicated pickleball courts to accommodate the growing number of pickleball players.
