El Paso Chihuahuas Begin 2022 Season with Lopsided Win
If last night is any indication about what to expect from new manager Jared Sandberg and the El Paso Chihuahuas in 2022, baseball fans will be very excited. The team exploded for six runs in the 5th inning and they cruised to a 13-1 win over the Round Rock Express at the Dell Diamond.
Eguy Rosario went 4-for-6 with a triple, an RBI and three runs scored in his first career Triple-A game. He also had one of El Paso’s two stolen bases. Rosario is ranked 14th by MLB in their Top 30 prospects list for the San Diego Padres.
Veteran catcher Webster Rivas went 4-for-5 with three RBIs for the Chihuahuas. Aderlin Rodriguez and Trayce Thompson both homered for El Paso in the win. Rodriguez played for El Paso in 2019 while the 31-year old Thompson played in the big leagues last season for the Chicago Cubs. Chihuahuas starter Jesse Scholtens pitched five shutout innings in the win.
The Padres released the 2022 Chihuahuas roster just prior to last night's season opener in Round Rock. Some of the players listed were still in Peoria with the Major League club as they wrapped up Spring Training and prepare for tomorrow's opener in Arizona against the Diamondbacks.
Tim Hagerty returns for his 9th year as the voice of the Chihuahuas. All games will air on 600 ESPN El Paso.
