The El Paso Animal Services is hoping that their second adoption location will help bring adoptable dogs a little closer to the east side and lower valley part of town!

The second location is known as the Mission Valley Adoption Center and it is located at 9068 Socorro rd.

This location may be new to some, but it has been around for years the need for the second location was not there as the shelter was able to keep up with the number of shelter pets in their facility. However, that is not the case now.

“So were extremely over capacity here, we have been for years typically the shelter can only hold around 300 animals, but we have right now close to 800, ” said Julieanne Newbold, Public Affairs Coordinator for El Paso Animal Services.

Mission Valley Adoption center can hold up to 35 dogs and is in a location that allows residents living in the far east, lower valley, and Horizon areas to adopt a pet without having to travel too far.

“The mission valley adoption center helps us to kind of give us a little bit of breathing room,” said Julieanne.

Animal Services officials are hoping that this second location will encourage our community to continue adopting or even fostering shelter pets to prevent the shelters from remaining over capacity.

“We mainly need the community right now to help us with adopting and fostering and just helping with taking in a community pet here at the shelter and giving them a home,” said Julieanne.

Adoption fees are waived and residents can stop by to adopt Fridays - Sundays from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. at 9068 Socorro Rd.
