Del Valle Destroys Canutillo in a 35-3 Route
Del Valle came into Lowenberg Stadium and stunned previously undefeated Canutillo 35-3 on Friday night, and in doing so, got their first victory of the season. The Eagles were without star running back Carlos Amato, who is out with an undisclosed injury which he received at Bel Air back on September 6. The Conquistadores came out poised as they scored on their first two possessions of the game to take an early 14-0 lead.
Canutillo finally caught a break towards the tail end of the first quarter when Del Valle fumbled a punt at their own 35 and the Eagles took advantage of the Conquistadores' blunder by kicking a 27-yard field goal. A QB keeper by Del Valle's Sebastian Carr with 30 seconds left in the first half gave Del Valle a commanding 21-3 lead at the half.
The Conquistadores continued their scoring barrage in the second half as Carr found his WR Gabriel Rodriguez for a 76-yard touchdown to take a 28-3 lead early in the third quarter. A Canutillo interception led to another Del Valle touchdown as they cruised to the easy win. It was a tremendous defensive performance by Del Valle, as they only allowed Canutillo to get one first down all evening long.
Del Valle moved to 1-3 on the season and will host Hanks next Friday, while Canutillo is now 3-1, and will host Coronado in the final week of non-district play.
