Coronado Basketball Coach Talks Playoffs, Mitchell Marcus

The Coronado T-Birds (31-1; 14-0) opened up their playoffs tonight with a 58-54 overtime victory over a worthy San Angelo Central squad.  This marked the second time the T-Birds downed the Bobcats; Coronado defeated Central 54-37 in November.

Coronado's nearly unblemished record is a great story by itself, but it pales in comparison to what happened a week ago against Franklin.  In an amazing show of sportsmanship and human compassion, Coronado senior Mitchell Marcus scored a basket he will never forget.  The special needs student was rewarded for his loyalty to the program by getting some playing time in the late stages of the game.  The story has garnered national attention, and CBS news sent a crew to film Marcus and the T-Birds as they geared up for the playoffs.
