The UTEP women's basketball team continues to roll as they moved to 17-1, 8-0 in C-USA after a 72-64 win over Sothern Miss in front of 4,326 fans at the Don Haskins Center on Thursday night.  The Miners are 11-0 at home, have now won nine games in a row, and ten of their last eleven contests overall in what can be described as an epic season thus far.

The game was extremely competitive as the Lady Eagles held their own against the Miners throughout the contest, despite only utilizing eight players.  Following the first quarter the game was tied at 16-16, and after a solid second quarter, the Miners took a 36-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The resilient Lady Eagles came out poised in the second half as they took a 47-45 lead over the Miners with 2:33 remaining in the third quarter .  UTEP accepted the challenge with open arms as they have all season long by scoring eight of the game's next ten points to pull away and win another crucial conference game.

UTEP continued their string of games with a dominant defensive performance by forcing 24 turnovers, and shot 43.1 percent for the game.  The team also shot 76.1 percent from the charity stripe by making 16 of 21 free throws.  The Miners will conclude their brief homestand on Saturday as they host Louisiana Tech at 2:05 p.m.  You can listen to that game with Tim Hagerty and Traci Miller on 600 ESPN El Paso.
