UTEP Men and Women Advance to the Semifinals of the C-USA Tournament

Today was a successful day for both UTEP basketball teams at the C-USA tournament in Tulsa.
The women got things started against UAB at 12:30 local time. Trailing by eight with 6:44 to play, the Miners went on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 47. UTEP kept UAB at bay the rest of the way to pick up the 61-59 win. Kayla Thornton led the way with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Anete Steinberga netted her 1,000th point in the win. Chrishauna Parker was a beast on the boards, grabbing 18 rebounds and getting to the foul line twelve time. Next up for the Miners is a 9 a.m. semifinals matchup against UCF.
The men tipped off against Houston about an hour after the women got underway. After a back and forth first half, UTEP downed Houston 80-69 to earn a birth in the men’s semifinals. Next up for the Miners will be Southern Miss at 2 p.m. Friday. Julian Washburn scored exactly twenty points for the second straight game. In another rare offensive outburst, six Miners scored in double figures.
