New York Mets pitching prospect Rafael Montero pitched 6.2 shutout innings in the Las Vegas 51s 2-0 victory over the El Paso Chihuahuas Thursday at Cashman Field. The Chihuahuas had late opportunities, leaving six combined runners on base in the seventh through ninth innings, but were shut out for the fifth time this season.
El Paso starter Juan Oramas matched Montero for the first three innings before allowing a two-out RBI single to Taylor Teagarden in the bottom of the fourth. Las Vegas added a second run one inning later when Andrew Brown hit an RBI single to left field past two diving Chihuahuas infielders.
Chihuahuas catcher Adam Moore played for the first time since June 28th. He had been on the disabled list with a meniscus injury. Branch Kloess and Chris Rearick both had scoreless outings out of the El Paso bullpen against the top-scoring offense in the Pacific Coast League.
