Derick Fisher has been fired as the head coach of the New York Knicks. President of Basketball Operations Phil Jackson announced on Monday that he as removed Fisher as the coach of the team and that Kurt Rambis will be the interm coach of the Knicks.

Here's what Jackson had to say on the firing:

"It's time for us to make a change, turn this team around and move forward and get some wins and keep going down the road we had started here at the beginning of the year."

Fisher went 17-65 his first year as the coach of the Knicks. This year the team is 23-31 and has lost nine out of it's last 10 games.

Fisher released a statement thanking the Knicks for the opportunity for coaching the team:

"This is a very talented team with strong character and I am confident they will succeed. Obviously, I'm disappointed, but have learned an immense amount from this experience and hope to grow from it."
