It's about time. El Paso Locomotive FC midfielder Dylan Mares was named the USL's Player of the Week. It is the first time this season that a Locos player has either been nominated or won the league's weekly award. Earlier this season, Maca King and Diego Luna have both been named to the USL Team of the Week.

After not finding the back of the net for the first eight matches of the season, Mares scored twice Saturday night in a span of just over 90 seconds to help Locomotive FC rally to defeat rival New Mexico United 2-1. The win in front of 8,138 fans at Southwest University Park kept El Paso in second place in the Mountain Division, just two points back of Rio Grande Valley FC with two games in hand. Mares also tallied an assist last Wednesday night in a loss to RGV and he received 50-percent of the vote to win P.O.W honors.

Next up for the Locomotive is a road match on Friday night at Zions Bank Stadium in Salt Lake City against Real Monarchs and it will be televised on ESPN + beginning at 8 p.m. The club returns home to Southwest University Park on Saturday night, July 17th to host the Las Vegas Lights.
