The YWCA’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event which raises funds to provide resources and support to domestic abuse survivors will be going virtual this year.  You may not see a gaggle of men walking around in bright red high heels on the street this year as participants are encouraged to instead sign up and walk around their home or living rooms.

Event organizers are hoping that the amount raised this year is about the same as the amount of money raised during this event for the past couple of years, with the goal being $100,000.  These funds would then be distributed to the Sara McKnight Transitional Living Center her in town so that they can provide much needed support for domestic violence victims.  Unfortunately, instances of this type of abuse have increased as a result of the COVID pandemic.

General registration fee for this year’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is $25 while students and those in the military wishing to participate can do so for $20.  Donations are also welcome, and the YWCA will have shirts and masks available for sale.

Those who register will be asked to walk between October 12 through October 25 and should share a picture of themselves doing so with the hashtag, #ywcawalkamile. You can register for the event by going to www.ywcaelpaso.org/events/walk-a-mile-in-her-shoes-2020/
