Will The Sun Bowl Football Game Be Canceled This Week Due TO COVID-19?

Bad news for football fans, this week's Sun Bowl football game is now in jeopardy after the University of Miami's football program announced covid issues. As the omicron covid variant continues to make its way across the world, there have been surges in positive cases in many communities including our own. Unfortunately for sports fans who enjoy watching college bowl games, the omicron variant has caused issues for five bowl games, including our very own Sun Bowl.

One of the bowl games affected is the Military Bowl in Maryland between Boston College and East Carolina University. The game is not happening today due to Covid-19 cases in the Boston football program. Other bowl games affected are the Fenway Bowl in Boston, the Hawaii Bowl scheduled for Christmas Eve, the Gator Bowl scheduled for New Year's Eve will have Rutgers University replacing Texas A&M per CNN.

The fifth game affected is the Sun Bowl, where the University of Miami Hurricanes were scheduled to play against the Washington State Cougars. According to a tweet from Brett McMurphy yesterday Miami was forced to pull the plug yesterday:

One of the questions people are asking is why can't UTEP play in the Sun Bowl since they are the hometown team. McMurphy answered that question on Twitter:

Another question we've seen is why can't the Sun Bowl take one of the other teams from the other affected bowl games. McMurphy also explained why we most likely won't see another team from a canceled bowl game come to the Sun City:
