UTEP needed Katia Gallegos just like she needed UTEP. It was a perfect match for a team that desperately needed a true point guard for the past two seasons. For Gallegos, the opportunity was, and continues to be, a dream come true.
UTEP has lost six of their last eight games and they will play host to the Roadrunners (8-9, 2-2 C-USA) on Wednesday night, who have won eight of their last 12 games after losing five straight games to start the season.
Through 40 minutes of up-and-down basketball, the Miners (10-6, 1-2 C-USA) were able to break away through the final five minutes to defeat Southern Miss (76-64) and win their first game in C-USA. UTEP is now 9-0 at home for the first time since 1988-89.
Turmoil and adversity have been no secret to the UTEP men’s basketball team (9-6, 0-2 C-USA). But on Thursday evening, the squad has a chance to turn the page and put aside these odd few weeks as they host Southern Miss (4-11, 0-2 C-USA) at the Haskins Center.
