UTEP WBB Prepares for Challenging East Coast Swing as the Season Winds Down
With only six games remaining before the C-USA Tournament begins in Frisco next month, the UTEP Women's basketball team, who are 14-9, 5-5 C-USA, will travel to Huntington, WV on Wednesday to play at Marshall on Thursday and at Old Dominion on Saturday. Their second to the last road trip of the season will represent a challenge despite both Marshall and ODU having losing records.
Marshall is 7-17, 1-10 C-USA, but always seems to represent a challenge for the Miners, as they have won the last four match-ups in Huntington. The Thundering Herd are led by junior standout Shayna Gore who averages 19.7 ppg, is the school's all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 196, and has scored a whopping 1,344 points, which is seventh on the school's all-time scoring list. Talequia Hamilton also paces the Herd averaging 14.6 points per game.
The Miners will then travel to Norfolk, VA on Friday to face the Lady Monarchs the following day. Despite a record of 6-19, 4-7 C-USA, ODU has beaten UTEP in their past two meetings, including during the first round of the C-USA Tournament last season. ODU is led by 3-time C-USA Freshman of the Week Victoria Morris, who's averaging nearly 12 points per contest, and red shirt senior Odegua Oigbokie, who is averaging 10 ppg..
One interesting fact, and a potential trivia question for the future; this will mark the first time in the history of UTEP WBB and MBB that both programs will play at the same road destination on the same day as the Men's basketball team will tip-off with ODU at 5 pm MST. The stars aligned, and due to a scheduling anomaly you will have a UTEP Women's and Men's basketball day/night double header!
You can listen to UTEP WBB at Marshall beginning at 4 pm MST on Thursday and at ODU at 12 pm MST on Saturday with the Iceman on 600 ESPN El Paso.
