UTEP is cleaning out their closets and giving fans a chance to reap the benefits. The Athletic Department announced the first ever Garage Sale, with over two thousand items priced between one dollar and as high as $40. The fun will happen at the Northeast concourse of the Sun Bowl (adjacent to the Larry K. Durham Center main entrance. As an added bonus, every fan who purchases an item will be entered into a drawing to win a UTEP football helmet.

"Over the years, our fans have asked how they can get their hands on the same gear that the players and coaches wear," UTEP Director of Athletics Jim Senter said in the official school release. "In the process of our spring cleaning, we realized that we had a lot of really cool stuff in our possession – some items dating back many years. We’re excited to make this product available to Miner fans for the first time. We thank our coaches and staff for taking the time to put all of this together."

One of the biggest gripes from fans is the lack of quality UTEP gear available at the bookstore or anywhere in El Paso. From the sound of this garage sale, your prayers have just been answered. The list of Miner goodies includes jerseys, uniforms, polos, t-shirts, shorts, sweatshirts, sweat pants, jackets, shoes, socks, hats, fleece blankets, backpacks, bags, championship watches, towels, jewelry, umbrellas and water bottles.

A few years ago, the El Paso Chihuahuas did something similar on a Saturday morning and they had a line wrapped around Santa Fe street. The UTEP Athletics Garage Sale will be on Friday, so it might be tougher for people to get time off from their jobs to attend. However, people love a good bargain, especially when it involves the Miners.

LOOK: The story behind every NFL team name

Stacker delved into the story behind every NFL football team name. Overall team records, also included, are reflective of NFL regular-season games. There are some football teams with well-known nicknames—the Jets, for instance, are often referred to as Gang Green—but we also divulge how some teams’ official names are sparingly used (the Jets’ neighbors, the Giants, are actually known as the New York Football Giants). Sometimes a team name can tell you a lot about local history: The Vikings of Minnesota draw upon the area’s strong ties to Scandinavia, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are dripping in local legend related to Florida’s pirate past.

Let’s kick off the countdown with the folks who earned their nickname by buying boxes of used team jerseys.
