Conference USA announced yesterday that they are partnering with Sinclair Broadcast Group on their newly launched American Sports Network. That means four additional UTEP football games will be televised on ASN, including the Miners road game against UTSA on Saturday, October 25th. The three other games to be televised will be home contests against New Mexico State, Old Dominion, and Middle Tennessee.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to partner with such a great broadcaster,” C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky said in a press release. “This
alliance provides new and differentiated exposure, which will benefit our member institutions, athletic programs, students, alumni, and communities. It certainly complements the existing arrangements we have on the FOX and CBS cable platforms.”

ASN will televise a total of 30 C-USA football games, plus an additional 70 games thaat will include basketball, soccer, and other sports. The big question is where will the games air in El Paso? I spoke with Kevin Hayes, general manager of the Sinclair-owned KFOX TV. His station also purchased KDBC (CBS) TV and will be taking over that station in October. Hayes said that the games will appear on either R-TV or MyTV. R-TV, which stands for Retro Television, is available on cable or over-the-air on channel 14-2. MyTV is also available on cable or over-the-air on channel 4-2. If you are a Direct TV or Dish Network subscriber, all you need to do is purchase HDTV rabbit ears (costs around $10) and connect it to your HD television. Hayes was not sure how many total C-USA games would air on R-TV or MyTV, but did not rule out the possibility of all 30 C-USA football games being available on his two second tier channels.
