UTEP Completes a Fierce Comeback Against FAU
The Miners rallied from a 15-point deficit to defeat FAU 75-70 on Thursday night, becoming the first team in program history to have multiple fifteen point comebacks in the same season. With their win and a record of 12-6, 3-2 C-USA, Coach Kevin Baker now has the most victories by any first-year UTEP head coach in program history.
Najala Howell scored 22 points, 11 rebounds and Tamara Seda tallied 20 points, 10 rebounds, both posting double-doubles. The Owls put up quite a fight with their clutch perimeter shooting by nailing 10 triples, including eight in the first half, to lead 45-30 prior to halftime. The deficit was 11 midway through the third quarter before the Miners wrapped a 15-0 run around the quarter break to secure their first lead since the opening minutes of action. It was back-and-forth down the stretch with four lead changes in the final five minutes, including UTEP scoring the final six points of the contest after FAU led 70-69 with 56 seconds left.
The Miners will now leave the friendly confines of the Don Haskins Center for a two-game road trip at Rice next Friday at 6 P.M. MST, and North Texas on Sunday at 2 P.M. You can listen to both games on 600 ESPN El Paso with Duke Keith.
