C-USA wrapped up its first week of league games and the UTEP basketball teams won all four of their games. The men's team survived a late scare at home Friday night and slipped by Rice 61-60.

Two days later, the Miners beat North Texas 84-75 behind a 20-point and 12-rebound effort from Hooper Vint. The Miners were badly out-rebounded in both games, but they were able to get good scoring from their guards. With the victories, the men's team is now 10-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The real tests will come on the road later this week, when they play at Middle Tennessee State and UAB.

Meanwhile, the UTEP women's basketball team won their first two C-USA games on the road. After surviving a late scare by Rice to win 60-54 Friday, the team had one of their better shooting performances of the season yesterday and defeated North Texas 75-67 at the Super Pit. Starr Breedlove led the way with a career high 25 points and team leading seven rebounds for the Miners.

With the wins, UTEP is now 11-1 overall and 2-0 in C-USA play. They will host Middle Tennessee (7-5, 1-0) Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. and then UAB (7-5, 0-1) Sunday evening at 5 p.m. Both games can be heard on 600 ESPN El Paso, with Sunday's game immediately following the NFC Wild Card Playoff game between Green Bay and Washington.

Also, the first Keitha Adams Radio Show of 2016 will be this Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. from Mesa Street Grill (3800 North Mesa).
