UTEP Basketball Postpones Thursday, Adds Sul Ross on Saturday
There's been another change to this week's schedule for the UTEP men's basketball team.
UTEP (1-0) has postponed its original game against Arizona Christian (Thursday, Dec. 3) with hopes to reschedule it at a later date. The Miners will now host Sul Ross State on Saturday, Dec. 5.
Along with the broadcast on 600 ESPN El Paso with MinerTalk after the game, the game will also be televised on the CW (7.2 over the air).
There will not be fans at Saturday's game, the university announced.
Sul Ross State (1-2) is coming off a weekend split against McMurry (W, 73-50) and Hardin-Simmons (L, 74-73). Their roster is loaded with former El Pasoans, including their top scorer Tristen Licon, a 6-foot-1 guard who's averaging 15.3 points and 10 rebounds in 31.7 minutes per game. Licon set the American Southwest Conference (ASC) single-season 3-point field goal percentage record (53.6), and the Americas alum was also named ASC West Newcomer of the Year in 2018. Other El Pasoans on their roster includes Canutillo grad Julian Paredes (8.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg), El Dorado alum Jacob Lopez (3-of-3 starts) and former Eastwood guard Mitchell Martinez.
Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Haskins Center. There hasn't been word yet about the rescheduling of the Arizona game, which was supposed to be played on Sunday, Nov. 29. The Miners had to postpone the game due to a positive COVID-19 case within the program and subsequent contact tracing.
