In efforts to improve the student fan experience at Miner football games, the UTEP athletic department succeeded again in improving the overall gameday involvement by allotting an exclusive tailgating area atop the Sun Bowl parking garage for students.

The UTEP Football Student Tailgate Zone will be open to students from noon to 6 p.m. for each of the Miners' first four football home games. Students will be allowed to obtain special tailgate permits—tailgate experience or tailgate parking permit—to reserve themselves a designated space.

All attendees at the UTEP Football Student Tailgate Zone will receive a wristband that allows quick entry to the game, with proof of an active Miner Gold Card or a football ticket. Wristbands will be available on the top level of the Sun Bowl parking garage.

Students are allowed to bring their own propane grill or pre-prepped outside food. Food and drinks will also be sold in the UTEP Football Student Tailgate Zone.

This is a really big move by UTEP to try and reel in more student fan attendance. We've talked on the show extensively about the school doing more to bring in student attendance and this incentive is a great step in the right direction. Tailgating for students had been on a do-it-yourself basis for different groups at UTEP, but this is a great way to unite the student body while still allowing them the freedom to have fun as well.
