When veteran running back Thomas Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs reportedly took exception to rookie receiver Jonathan Baldwin’s protests over hazing rituals, the two got into a fight in the weight room that left Baldwin with a broken thumb.

Reports of the incident reignited debate over whether hazing belongs, and whether teams are doing enough to supervise their players’ conduct off the field.

It’s not the first time that Jones has gone at it with a teammate — he punched his Chicago Bears teammate Cedric Benson back in 2006. Meanwhile, Baldwin could be sidelined for a month or two.

These kinds of locker-room flareups happen in intense and high-pressured settings like training camp. Baldwin may think twice now before taking back to his teammates before he’s won their respect. Still, both parties probably regret their actions.
